U.S. 70 is one of the original 1926 highways. Originally it traveled through eight states. Its current route takes it through seven states. The eighth state was California. That leg of the route was decommissioned on July 1, 1964.

East to west route:

  • North Carolina – 432 Miles
  • Tennessee – 495 Miles
  • Arkansas – 266 Miles
  • Oklahoma – 276 Miles
  • Texas – 252 Miles
  • New Mexico – 449 Miles
  • Arizona – 124 Miles
  • California – decommissioned July, 1964
